Programming: STITCH and S.T.E.M
Stitch STEM
A culmination of fun and pop culture, this STEM program gave kids the opportunity to do 10 science experiments/ stations and feel good about becoming a mad scientist working for the Galactic Alliance.
This program required very little prep, and families left feeling that their kids were happy and knew more leaving the library than when they first entered. Because I had 10 stations in total, I was able to have 30 children attend at once. Remember too, 30 kids means at least 30 extra grownups who drove them here. So there had to be room for at least 60 people in this program.
The room was very full, but no one felt as if they were waiting for anything for very long, and most stations allowed two or three kids to participate at once. Here are descriptions of the first five stations. If you have any questions please leave a comment!
Budget was zero, but the vibes were immaculate!
…Stations Included…
Stitch Station:
We made a 'river' out of a blue tinsel backdrop and had kids tape stretchy sensory tubes together from the wall and over the river to safely deposit a marble 'experiment.'
Sparky Station:
For this activity we made a carboard box into a lighthouse. Inside the lighthouse were yellow balloons. The kids had to take the lighthouse lights (balloons) and create static electricity by rubbing the balloons on their head.
The kids would then hover the balloons over a table covered with silver and gold tissue paper squares and try to make them cling to the balloon. Some kids made this into a competition and tried to see who could get their balloon the shiniest.
Magnarette Station:
For this station, we laminated mazes (Made curtesy of Canva... They have a lot of free maze options if you search elements.) and ice creams, decorated popsicle sticks to look like Magnarette's striped ears, and added magnets to the ears and ice creams. There were three mazes the kids had complete by putting the ice cream on one side of the maze and the ear on the other. They then would drag the ice-cream though the maze using the magnetic pull from the ear.
Evile Station:
This station was extra simple and easy. We had leftover Easter Eggs that we drew the number 627 on to make experiment pods. We then had the kids put a little print out version of Evile into the pod. Once secured, the kids used our building toy to create an indestructible container to hold Evile and keep civilization safe.
Yang Station:
Using orange ping pong balls as fireballs, I set up a station where kids could practice different water pressure experiments using plastic water bottles. Some were cut in half, others we kept while. The station was soaked after the event, but totally worth it. We took ideas from the videos linked below.

I had teen volunteers manned at each station, and this added an extra layer of ‘cool’ for the kids who love to do mimic the ‘older cool kids.’
Overall, a success :)
